Back to iOS

One of the biggest announcements from Apple is that they are going to have an AppStore for the Mac. The news of this has people both excited and scared.

The true blessing with the Mac AppStore is that it may actually help the iOS become more open. I do not think it will become completely open like the Android OS, but it may open the doors to installing apps from places outside of the AppStore.

Here is the logic behind this (as I am sure many of you disagree with the above statement).

If the Mac AppStore becomes wildly successful and they sell and host millions upon millions of Mac apps. If this Mac AppStore creates the same effect it did on the iOS this will show Apple one very important thing … you can install apps outside of the AppStore and still have a runaway hit!

After Mac users prove to Apple that an AppStore plus installing apps from Safari is a great thing Apple will hold another event in a year or two called "Back to iOS" or something that reminds people of the "Back to the Mac" event. At this event Jobs and company will showcase all of the innovations that have been done on the Mac that have not yet arrived on iOS and bring functionally back from the Mac to the iOS like installing apps from Safari onto your iOS device.

So that is the logic that I think may prove to be true in a few years. I would be curious to see what other things in the Mac OS that Apple would bring back to iOS. Could this include Time Machine, iTunes freedom, Mission Control? Mission Control would be a huge step forward in the multitasking interface. Imagine visually being able to see what your iPad is doing and what apps are open. Currently the multitasking bar is simply a recent items list and most are not even running.

So my question is this - what will Apple bring back to iOS? I would love to hear comments and feedback on this!

"Back to the Mac"

In about an hour Steve Jobs is expected to take the stage to announce a slew of new things for the Mac.

Apple is holding its “Back to the Mac” event today and the rumors keep on coming and the biggest ones to date include a new Macbook Air which hasn’t seen a redesign since its initial launch many years ago. Apple is surely to announce Mac OS Lion (most likely 10.7 - the final version of a 10.x OS from Apple). Although it may end up being OS 11 a completely new operation system. We will know in a few short hours.

My hope for the iPad in this event is that the next OS will take cues from the iPad to make my Mac experience more iPad like. I’d love to see the user interface become more iOS like while still retaining the power and control over the system that I have today. I’d also love to see an iLife for iPad announced and possibly released today! I see this as something that needs to happen sooner rather than later. Garageband for the iPad is something needed in a big way.

The new Macbook Air - I’d love to see this as the first iOS/Mac OS hybrid machine that transforms into a larger screen iPad when the need arises.

Many more things and possibilities are in the air for this event and I’ll be sure to report what did happen today as Apple goes “Back to the Mac.”

Welcome to Version 3.0

If you’re reading this you have come across a brand-new website for the iPad Possibilities Podcast. This is version 3.0 of this website. The first websites incarnation was with libsyn.com. The second website was on TPPN.TV. Since then the podcast has grown so large that it has seen fit to create its own special website apart from The Possibilities Production Network.

What can you expect from this new website?

First, you can expect easier to find contents. I have redesigned the way you can find new content with this website. If you click on the episodes at the top you will see a pulldown menu with all sorts of different categories, from here you can find my favorite episodes, some very specialized episodes, and iPad episodes for beginners.

From this website you also have access to the live show which broadcast every Sunday night at 9:30 PM Eastern standard Time.

The new website will also bring access to brand-new listener forums to discuss the latest news in iPad, the newest ideas and how you will use your iPad, feedback for the episodes, and much much more.

The new website also will streamline the process of finding out about GadgetFreeway.com

The new website will also bring more frequent blog entries both text and video to share some quick thoughts on the latest things in the Apple and iPad world.

You will find many more new things already hear or coming in future updates the website.

Finally, this new website is optimized for the iPad! Since this is an iPad podcast I thought why not have this website coded to be iPad optimized. You can now tune into the live show every Sunday night at 9:30 PM EST and watch the show right on your iPad now! I am still working on a solution to have the chat room iPad accessible, but that should be available soon!

I hope you enjoy the new version 3.0 website for the iPad Possibilities Podcasts. Please let me know if you see anything you’d like to see added to this website or any changes that can be made.

Sincerely,

Tim Chaten
